Diy Vanity Mirror

Mamas, how many of us have a lighted vanity mirror on our wishlist? Lately we’ve seen them everywhere, from our favorite youtube vloggers videos, to advertisement for them all over. However, they can be quite pricey and I don’t know about you but I can find better things to do with $300 then buy a mirror. That still didn’t stop me from wanting one, so I decided to do some research and learned how to make my own. It turned out to be super easy and fast to make, so I wanted share with all of you! KID OOTD + SuperHero Day at the Fairground

Today our local fairground had an awesome event, Princess, Ponies & Superhero Family Day. There were Equestrian Angels petting ponies (super cute), live racing, inflatables, and of course superheros and princesses. The event was free for kids 12 and under and only $5 dollars for adults. My little man was able to meet Batman and Spiderman and after some warming up pet some of the ponies. Overall the event was nice, although I was not a fan of the live racing(due to the whipping of horses involved). The weather was supposed to be pretty bad today, so we wanted to dress Jamal in something cute, causal and comfortable.

Reconnecting with my Latina Roots

This year I made 26 and to be completely honest with you I wasn’t excited. I felt like 26 was just one year closer to 30 and I began to think about all of the things that I wanted to accomplish, and hadn’t. That’s when I decided to sit down and make a list of things that I wanted to accomplish during year 26. At the very top of my list was reconnecting with my Latina roots.

I was born to Dominican parents but was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. While my family is very engaged in our culture somewhere along my journey called life, I disconnected.  I grew up listening to bachata blast through our speakers, ate Dominican dishes every day, spoke Spanish, visited my country more times than I can count and somehow I regret to admit, it just didn’t stick. Now as a mother to a biracial toddler, the greatest gift I could give myself and him is to reconnect with my roots. How can I teach my son to be prideful in his Dominican heritage, if I have fallen short on doing so for myself?  So this year one of my priorities will be to not only reconnect but also celebrate my Latin roots. Here is my reconnection plan: Read more

Sabroso Sabados: Mangu

One of my favorite things about being a Dominicana is our delicioso cuisine. One of our most popular recipes is the Mangu, mashed plantanos (plantains). The great thing about plantanos is they are nutritionally beneficial; it contains loads of vitamin A, vitamin C, magnesium, and potassium. It is so nutrient rich that it is often acknowledged for being a super food. The pros do not stop there though, it is also super tasty and easy to make. You can eat mangu for breakfast, lunch, dinner, main dish, side dish, you name it! I like to eat my mangu as my main dish with salchichon , queso frito, y aguacate (salami, fried cheese and avocado). Mangu is a must try for anyone who loves Dominican food, or just looking to try something different. Read more

DIY Red Heart Shirt

Things you will need:

White T-shirt Fabric Paint Paint brush Heart Stencil Cardboard

I first started off by cutting an empty box of cereal in half to use as my cardboard. I used one side to slide inside of my shirt so the paint wouldn’t bleed through. I used the other half of my cardboard as a paint palette. I made my own heart stencil by taking a heart cut out and tracing it on card stock. Then I cut the heart out of my card stock , therefore creating a stencil.
